Page 1 of 3 In this tutorial, I’m going to show you how to make sword with some decoration detail. Everything will be real geometry (no bump or displacement maps).
So first create profile line using cv curve tool
Duplicate it, so you can have both sides
Duplicate curves, and then scale them to define the upper part of the sword. To adjust pivot on scale tool, just press insert. You will be able to move scale pivot. Press insert again to exit pivot adjustment mode.
Tweak cv’s to get the shape.
Create another pair of curves that will define the shape little better. Put them between and scale them a bit to get nonlinear transition. Then select three curves on one side and go to surfaces/loft. This will create surfaces between them.
Then select pair of top curves and loft them too. You will notice black spot at the front. This will not show in rendering so don’t worry.
Then go to Create/Text option box. Choose text and font. Also set type to curves, since we need only curves right now.
Position the text where you want it to be on the sword (from the top view)
Then select the text and then select the surface, go to Edit NURBS/project curve on surface option box. Set project along active view. This will project curves from any point you are looking right now (you need to be in the top view in this case)
So, surface has some curves attached to it. That type of curves is called Surface Curve, and they always stay on surface. Cool eh? Now select surface and press make live (magnet icon)
